Precision Mapping 8.0 -Europe- with imported shp files and underlay

Precision Mapping Streets and Traveler 8.0 only includes highways and streets in the United States and Canada, coastal outlines and country borders in the rest of the world.  However, it is possible to add shape files and underlay bitmaps to create fully zoomable maps of anywhere in the world.  While these maps will not be as detailed and accurate as the regular US and Canada maps, they can provide an alternative to using raster maps in Ui-View.

The following images were created with PMap 8.0 using imported DCW (Digital Chart of the World) shp files and a raster map of Boston,UK which is included with UiView.  The DCW shp files included roads, rivers, and lakes.  The shp roads are white with red borders in the image below.  The shp roads do not register exactly with the roads in the Boston underlay image, but they do extend far beyond the underlay.  The DCW file I used did not include road names or numbers.  If they had been included the names or numbers would appear on the map.

You can zoom in and out with PMap or Uiview.  The following image shows PMap zoomed out.  The DCW roads change from double lined to single line via settings you can make in the PMap 8 Import Manager.

You can zoom out again.  The following image shows major cities, lakes, rivers and highways as well as the underlay.
